Our Town

Győr (with 130 000 inhabitants) is the biggest and most modern industrial town of Western Hungary. Next to the capital, Győr has attracted the most firms of Western Europe to establish affiliated factories (Audi, Leier, Wolf, and Philips among others). Most recent statistics attest that Győr is the most dynamically developing town in Hungary.

Shopping is done best in the large malls and supermarkets like Arkad, Plaza, Metro, Praktiker, Bricostore, Interspar, and Kaisers. In the romantic streets of the city you find plenty of smaller shops and boutiques, hairdressers, beauty salons, massage studios, hotels, apartment houses, night clubs, bars and casinos. A lot of gastronomic enjoyment is offered by restaurants offering both international and traditional Hungarian dishes. In "the town of waters" devotees of wellness find an open-air and thermal bath, a swimming pool equipped with saunas. Natural sports facilities (angling, hunting, hiking, rowing) are also available. Győr has tennis courts and squash courts, a riding ring, several fitness centres and body building clubs as well.

Győr is also a centre of culture. Several theatres invite you all year to their performances. The Győr Ballet Ensemble is world renown. In the summer artistic events teem in the town: open-air concerts in the pavilion of Radó island and in the yard of Hotel Klastrom, a baroque wedding, a market of folk-art from Hungary's different regions, theatre performances in Széchenyi Square, a festival of folk costumes from many lands and a plenty of others…

The most important monuments - the cathedral, several churches and a synagogue - with the museums give insight into the town's past.
